The Barwon Heads Bluff and surrounds is a special place. It is a place where the Barwon River enters the cool waters of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. It is a place where tides and waves have shaped the rocks over time and created a wide diversity of places for animals and plants to live.

To find an Elephant Snail hidden beneath a rock, to watch the kelp sway back and forth with the waves, or to explore the magic gardens in the rockpools is to glimpse the beauty, complexity and uniqueness of the Barwon Bluff Marine Sanctuary.

Barwon Heads Community Arts Garden is a community based Permaculture garden located at Moonah Gates Park, 38 Geelong Road, Barwon Heads. The garden will be used as a community gardening and gathering space, a space for the creation and display of art and as a living example and experiment in living green. It will contain a communal veggie patch as well as individual allotments, an orchard, a covered meeting space with cooking and storage facilities, and we hope to fill it with flowers, colour, sculpture, art and people.

The annual festival is a celebration of our links to the sea through the diversity of our environment, history, arts, culture and lifestyle. It is a popular community event that showcases local musical talent, art and craft, food and local produce, and knowledge of the sea and coastline. The festival has been operating since 2001 and is a FREE community event packed with fun activities.

Music in itself provides a wonderful opportunity to meet with others and appreciate the beauty and variety of the presentation, whilst contributing positive health benefits. These include developing new friendships, addressing health issues, building communities, encouraging inclusivity and addressing the issue of social isolation.

The aim of the Barwon Heads Fine Music Society Inc. is to encourage social connection and good community networks through the performance of music of all genres.

The Barwon Heads Association is a forum for residents and visitors to Barwon Heads. Everyone is welcome to participate in BHA activities. Members of the Association are interested in a wide range of topics including the urban development of Barwon Heads, transport and traffic issues, and environmental concerns. When necessary, BHA represents the community in discussions with Federal, State and Municipal Governments. BHA encourages, fosters and, sometimes, coordinates community activities within Barwon Heads and the district.  Memberships are welcomed: to join you need to be a resident or ratepayer in Barwon Heads.

The Barwon Heads Arts Council Inc. was established as a not-for-profit incorporated organisation in 2013 with the following vision.

  1. To develop a community arts hub for artists and the community to come together;

  2. To promote creative education though workshops, events and festivals;

  3. To promote the arts throughout the Bellarine Peninsula.
